Displacement
In this series I have created fictional landscapes by digitally combining photographs from two different geographic regions. The title ‘Displacement’ comes from recognizing similarities in terrain in places that are foreign to me yet feel like home. On a most basic level, they are formal comparisons of the earth’s geographical features. On a more conceptual level, because they are created through digital manipulation, they are comment on the technological advances that have made our world smaller and more homogeneous. My intention is to present the viewer with a visual comparison, aiming to raise questions about where we position ourselves in a global environment, and in physical space.
